Old Carolina Brick

Old Carolina Brick is brick in its purest form — hand-molded, wood-fired, and rich with the irregular beauty that only true craftsmanship can create. Every piece carries the subtle imperfections, softened edges, and layered tones that define historic masonry throughout the South.

A Brick Made the Old Way

Old Carolina is one of the few brick makers in America still crafting brick by hand. Skilled artisans press raw clay into wooden molds, shape each piece individually, and fire the bricks in traditional kilns where heat, flame, and mineral content create natural variations. No two bricks are exactly alike — and that is the point.

Artistry in Every Imperfection

How Its Made

Handmade brick isn’t manufactured; it’s shaped. Clay is pressed by hand, creating subtle creases and surface movement. The wood mold imprints texture. During firing, flame and heat interact uniquely with each batch, pulling out warm reds, soft greys, smoky char, and earthen undertones.

Soft Edges. Deep Color. Honest Texture.

The Old Carolina Look

Old Carolina Brick is defined by its gentle irregularity. Edges are softened, textures are tactile, and tones shift subtly from brick to brick, giving an installation a warmth and complexity that machine-made brick can’t imitate.
