A Legacy Built on Craft and Character

About Christie Cut Stone

Christie Cut Stone has shaped the architectural landscape of the South for more than a century. Founded in 1906 by Scottish immigrant Alex Christie, the company began with a simple principle: build with materials that last, and craftsmanship that matters. That belief still guides everything we do today.

From the earliest hand-carved limestone pieces to the modern architectural materials we curate now, our work has always been grounded in integrity, precision, and respect for the craft.

Established 1906

A Foundation Set in Stone

Christie Cut Stone is deeply woven into the history of Memphis and the surrounding region. Some of the city’s most recognizable landmarks — including the Rhodes College campus and the Orpheum Theatre — bear the mark of our early stonework. For decades, our focus was the milling and hand-carving of Indiana limestone, supplying architectural detail to projects that demanded permanence and precision.

Those early years shaped our identity: thoughtful, deliberate, and uncompromising in quality.

Tradition Meets Technology

Evolving with Architecture

As architecture evolved across the Southeast, so did Christie Cut Stone. Under third-generation leadership, the company expanded beyond limestone into brick, stone veneer, paving, and landscape materials — responding to the needs of modern builders while honoring the standards of traditional masonry.

Today, the fourth generation carries the legacy forward. With one foot rooted in heritage and the other in innovation, we blend time-tested craftsmanship with advanced stonecutting technology to support projects ranging from custom homes to large-scale commercial developments.
